Why doesn't G-Wizard Calculator Give More Bonus to Flood Versus Mist Cooling?

Best Answer

G-Wizard is calibrated in the expectation the chips will be kept clear of the cutter and proper lubrication from flood or mist will be available when needed for materials like aluminum that tend to weld to the cutter.

Mist and flood are considered equal for this application.  There are step-up coolant solutions that do get bonuses including Programmable Coolant Nozzles (PCN), Through Spindle Coolant (TSC), and High Pressure Coolant (the HP on the Machine Profile).  Bonuses can be quite substantial on these.
You might wonder, why doesn’t Flood get a bonus over Mist?
The answer is that the bonus would be very slight, maybe 5% on feedrate, and there is so much variation in flood coolant that it is hard to give that bonus and be conservative.  Flood ranges from a trickle on machines without enclosures to systems that look like a car wash inside the enclosure.  The trickle system may well perform less well than a good mist system–chips settle in the bottom of the pool and don’t move, though there is plenty of lubrication.  So, that’s why no bonuses.
