Help Refitting Plasma Table for Torch Height Control
I have been tasked with retrofitting a Koike plasma table and need some guidance. I have been doing some homework and I have the following information. The monograph currently runs x and y with dc servo motors and hollow tube encoders. I called CMC and they confirmed that the encoders are digital. The drives are rack and pinion with the motor outputs going through a gear reduction. My plans are to go with MACH3 for the controller, an Apollo breakaway board, a KFLOP motion controller that will output to geckos G320X servo drive. I would like to replace the current Z axis with the torchmate arc voltage torch height control. This is my first retrofit so if there is anyone that has done something similar and could help it would be awesome.
Just on the humorous side the current system runs floppies and windows 95 with some pretty outdated software, the printer port and serial card have big yellow question marks next to them in the driver panel, the RS232 connections are not the best and seem to be getting a lot of noise transfer from the surrounding environment to the point that the table is being used to store items on it as no one wants to use it because of the random movements and stutters .
