GCode is Complicated
G-Wizard Makes it Easy

New Optional G-Wizard Calculator Release Available

Mar 7, 2017   //   by Bob Warfield   //   Blog, FeedsSpeeds, Products, Software  //  3 Comments

I just uploaded G-Wizard Calculator version 3.83.  This is an optional release, PC only (not Mac), which means I won’t be turning on the auto-update right away.  I do optional releases when I want folks who want the latest and greatest to check things out a bit before the mainstream gets hold of it.  If I don’t hear of any serious issues with this release over the next few days, I will create the Mac version and turn on the auto-update for it.

Meanwhile, let’s talk about what’s in the release.  I have added the next installment of Tool Family functionality. Recall that Tool Families give G-Wizard the ability to learn about new cutters incrementally by giving it examples of their use.  Yes, that’s right–G-Wizard has some of that Artificial Intelligence “Machine Learning” power you’ve been hearing so much about lately.  There’s also some additional Tool Crib features.

You get quite a few handy things:

  1.  Tool Families can now be Shared Preferences just like Tool Cribs and Machine Profiles.
  2. Tool Families can be used in the Tool Crib.
  3. There is now a CSV import facility to allow you to bulk load examples if you have a large number of them.
  4. There is now a “Copy” function to copy a tool from one Tool Crib to another.  Thanks to Dirk for suggesting this feature!
  5. Crib tool selection lists are now alphabetized based on their description so you can control the order they appear on a list.
  6. I added 5051 Aluminum to the Materials DB.  You can always request new materials if you need them and I will try to get them added.
  7. I improved the Login Help to try to make it easier for folks to figure out why their login isn’t working.

There’s still quite a few more exciting developments around Tool Families coming soon.  Meanwhile, I would be interested in any feedback you may have about this new functionality.  Just send me some email to bob@cnccookbook.com!

  • The tool family thing is awesome. Would be great if Gwizard eventually came loaded with a massive library of tool family data sort of like it has a massive library of materials.

    • OK, cut that out Alex–no fair reading my mind about future features!

  • Just a 2 cent comment. Waylon and willie had a big hit with “mommas” but the writer and original was Ed Bruce, who was also the sherrif on “the new maverick” with James Garner
