Breaking News: “CNC Chef” Video Series Launched With Cutting Tool Engineering

Feb 20, 2017   //   by Bob Warfield   //   Blog, Cool, FeedsSpeeds, Software, Techniques  //  7 Comments

I am excited to announce that I’ll be doing a new monthly video series with Cutting Tool Engineering called the “CNC Chef” (a playful reference to the CNCCookbook).  In our first video, I cover the subject of Tool Rubbing.  It comes as a surprise to some that if you try to slow down a cut too much, it is actually much worse for Tool Life.  This video explains why:

Building a Video Studio

This project came along at the perfect time.  I had basically just decided that our New Year’s Resolution here at CNCCookbook should be to do a lot more video in 2017, and to increase the production values for the video.

This CTE video was edited courtesy of their folks (thanks so much, Dennis!), but I provided the Green Screen video and the stills that are superimposed on the background.  It’s been a fascinating learning curve and I’m pleased with the results, thanks to all the hard work of the CTE staff.

My next goal is learn to do videos like this for CNCCookbook and start putting them out on a regular basis.  We’ll also be doing more CTE videos, so stay tuned!

While I am at it, a word about Cutting Tool Engineering.  They’ve been one of my favorite online CNC publications for a long time because they’re so in-depth and so tuned into the kinds of issues I deal with here at CNCCookbook and with our G-Wizard Software.  If you’ve never checked out the publication, you’ll want to check it out–really excellent articles there.

  • Good video!

  • Wow! Great video! I learned much and look forward to more. Excellent graphics and overall format. Thank you for taking the effort to make these. Video production is very time consuming. My only suggestion is to somehow keep the lighting on you face consistent. I found myself wondering what was causing the variation while trying to focus on your great explanation.

    • Ken, the lighting was the camera on automatic and changing its mind every so often. Next vid will be done on manual. It’s been a learning experience for me!

  • Very clear explanation, thanks. Just one question though…
Does depth of cut come into chipload calculations?

  • Hey Bob, cool to see that you are making videos now. Liked the simplistic format that just gets to the guts of it. Looking forward to more learning from these video series, great work.

You are very animated with your hands when you talk, I’m exactly the same way!
